I found this near my home in Beaumont, Ca.
This is a family endeavor to learn of geology and geography, which is all around us.

Around My Neighborhood
Rock Hunting
A wee bit further...
Just a little more...
Let's go home and see what we got!
Veins of Garnet
My kids got the best pieces we collected. Pics of those soon! The whole chunk of rock is not garnet, although I keep referring to it as such. We'll get to see very nice veins of garnet on site, soon.

Equipment- Android, LG Optimus S (2.2.2)
I am a lot a bit nervous here. I wanted to show off the phone and well, at least it will feature in most posts, as I got tongue-tied. The wi-fi isn't all it's cracked up to be, and Sprint charges for it. And then some. And again.
Equipment- Jeep
Jeeps are cool! We are riding in mountain style as we explore the land around us. Just getting to our site is and adventure in itself. This awesome toy enables us to reach distant mines hidden in these hills.
Preparation
I am preparing for my first documented geological exploration. Sounds serious. The climate in Beaumont is mild. Snakes should not be too much of a problem, yet. My groovy new phone, the android LG Optimus S (2.2.2) has taken six hours to fully charge.
I plan to go on a few hikes today in different areas around Beaumont, Ca. The first trip will help me refine my equipment needs. This is funny, because my phone is my techie equipment. I will be figuring out the appropriate aps for successful geological exploration. This project is very inexpensive, and way better than Disneyland, as family adventures depart whenever and can take less than an hour.
I will be walking on a bluff near my back yard. There are a couple interesting colored rocks there. Green and pink. I will photograph specimens and record the areas data, as best I can. Research will be done at home, and viola! Everyone will be a rock smarter... te he

In the Beginning, There was Form and Substance
This idea came to me in series of bursts. I got an Android, and the capabilities are limitless. I love hiking and the earth is fascinating. My children also love "exploring". We call rocks treasures. They are. Why not combine the blog with YouTube, and our adventures while exploring the land around us. Hopefully, my children will develop the desire to learn about the world around them, including what most consider boring, such as rocks.
Our first areas of interest are in California. I recently moved to Beaumont in Riverside county, which is in a mountain pass. There are interesting rocks here, such as immature geodes and garnets. In two weeks my son and I will be collecting specimens to study on our road trip to Northern California, using all the wonderful features of my new Android.
Check back soon for our first Rock Study.
